Telsiai – is the town in northwestern Lithuania, in Zemaitija, near Mastis lake and stream of Durbin, 69 km to west of Siauliai. It is Telsiai district' and Telsiai' municipal center. Population is 30 000 (2010). Area is 17 square kilometers. Telsiai - is Zemaitija capital district diocese, cultural and educational center. City is built on seven hills, hosting the most beautiful lake Mastis, it is proud of its old town (one of the seven protected old towns in Lithuania), Samogitian Museum "Alka", tourist attractions and an abundance of unique items: St. Anthony of Padua Cathedral with two central altars, the only Orthodox-style Lithuania cubist St. Nicholas Orthodox, Jesibotas surviving buildings. Telsiai is mentioned in historical sources from 1450. In 1791 King Stanislavas Augustas gave Telšiai Magdeburg rights and arm.
