Trakai

Trakai – is the city of Vilnius district, 30 km to west from the center of Vilnius. It is the city of Trakai district municipality and the parish. Population is (2010) 5 266. Area is 11.5 square km. City is surrounded by lakes with a lot of different-sized islands (northern edge of town surrounded by the Galve, the eastern - by Luka, or the lake of Bernardinas, southern - by Giluzis, western - by the lake Totoriskes). There is Trakai Historical National Park direction. There lives Lithuanian (60 per cent.) Polish (20 percent)., Karaites and other nationalities. The Old town of Trakai is one of five state-protected old towns in Lithuania (169 ha), in the island stands the main city sight - the castle of Trakai. It is urban monument (since 1969). Trakai - is the most favorite short holiday place. Here are the right conditions take a swim, you can go fishing, sail yachts, boats, also wide variety of other forms of recreation choice. There is an interesting and informative exhibit of Trakai history museum in the island castle. There is a unique Karaite ethnographic exhibition. There is Trakai hill.
