Varena – is the city in the south of Lithuania, in the district of Alytus, 51 kkm to southeast from Alytus. It is the center of region and ward. There are 6 wards (Dzukian, M. K. Ciurlionis, Park, Boscage, Vytautas, Zaliasis). The city is set to the north from the railway Vilnius-Gardinas. There stands the church of St. archangel Mykolas (from 1933 year), there is a post, railway station. In the 1966 year on the 30 of august the lowest temperature of Lithuania in the summer was fixed in Varena, it dropped to -2,9 °C. There are 10 106 residents in Varena (2010), and the area is 11,7 km².
