Ukmerge

Ukmerge – it is the town in Aukstaitija, in Vilnius district (76 km to northwest of Vilnius and 71 km to north east of Kaunas) the centre of Ukmerge district. Population is (2011) 25 886. Sventoji flows through the city (in the center of it into it flows right tributary Ukmergele, formerly known as Vilkamerge and Vilkamergele), on the right bank of it stands the hill Ukmerge, on this bank also there is Ukmerge Old town - Urban monument. In Ukmerge there are three Catholic churches: Ukmerge St. Apostles Peter and Paul church (since 1820), Ukmerge St. Trinity (Pijor) church (since 1863), Pasiles St. Barbara church (since 1789), the wooden Ukmerge St. miss patron church (Old Believers built it in 1873), there is the former Great Synagogue in the city center, in the square near the house of culture stands nature monument - a stone of Dukstynos. There is a clay deposit.
