Utena – is the city of north-eastern Lithuania, in the Utena Upland (part of Upland Aukštaičiai), 92 km to north of Vilnius. It is the centre of Utena district and Utena district municipality. Population is 31 940 (2010). Area is 15.1 square km. There stands Utena Christ Ascension to Heaven church (built in 1884). There is a city park. In the Ruse racetrack in the summer there is held races. There stands Utena stone with the pelvis (the archaeological monument), there is standing water tower (historical monument), the postal Palace (the old post office, the nineteenth-century classical, architect V. Ricelis). Interesting Facts: in teh year of 1956 on the 1st of February in Utena was fixed whole Lithuania record of cold: -42.9 ° C. In the year of 1986 June there was raging record wind (40 m /s).
