J. Basanavičiaus str., Utena

Monument to J. Basanavičius

In the beginning of the 20th cent. Dr. Jonas Basanavičius – initiator of Lithuanian revival, scientist, physician – visited the small town of Utena. Perhaps he walked along the longest street of Utena, along a part of the highway Saint Petersburg – Warsaw without any suspicion that it will be called by his name soon and that the monument be erected in his honour. At that time J.Basanavičius researched the burial mounds, castle-hills of Utena land.
