Marijampole – is the city in south-western Lithuania, 56 km to southwest of Kaunas. nofficial Suwalki (Suduva) capital. It is the seventh largest city in Lithuania. The distance from Vilnius is - 139 km and from the port city of Klaipeda - 236 km. There are 46 261 (2010) residents, the area is 21 km².
Marijampole was founded in 1667. The city is located in the area of 2 050.7 hectares of land. Sesupe devides the city into two parts, connected by six bridges. The biggest part of the city is on the right bank of the river. In Marijampole works several churches: St.. Michael the Archangel Minor Basilica, in addition to it - St. George (Marian) Monastery of St. Pauline Vincent' Church (the end of the nineteenth century), belonging to the diocese of Vilkaviskis, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Marijampole, Marijampole ortodox church of the Holy Trinity Church.
