Druskininkai – resort in the very south of Lithuania, in the district of Alytus, 60 km to south from Alytyus. Druskininkai is the center of municipality. All through the year working balneological, mud and climatic resort is the oldest (from 1794 years) and the biggest resort in Lithuania. The old town of Druskininkai is the monument of urban. 16 107 residents live (2010) in the area of 24 km².
There are 3 temples, city cemerety, 8 sanatoriums, a lot of recreation centers, hotels, public library, central hospital of Druskininkai (in the forest of Balaine), clinic, post (new palace of post were put 1980 year, the architect was V. Bainkovas), some parks in the city of Druskininkai. There is a bridge built over the Nemunas.
Today Druskininkai – is the international, whole year working balneological, mud, mineral water and climate therapeutics resort. Resort is rich with various mineralization waters, its chemical consist similar to well known mineral waters of Europe, and its mines of healing peaty mud. Because of pinewoods which rounds Druskininkai, a lot of water mines weather in here is very clear, and the negative (light) ions that dominate in it – essential feature of cleanliness. Now in the resort works new-look hospital of Druskininkai and 7 sanatoriums, 16 hotels from 2 to 4 stars, 11 guest houses, 16 rural tourism places and SPA complexes.
